USB 10/100/100 LAN is not working

I have MacBook Pro 14-inch (M1 pro) running on Monterey 12.2.

My ethernet cable is connected directly to my monitor Dell U2722DE and the macbook is connected to the monitor using the USB-C DP 1.4 cable which allows charging the laptop (max PD of 90W), video, audio, ethernet, and peripherals passthrough.

This allows me to connect everything to the monitor and the laptop has only one DP 1.4 cable going to the monitor. While everything else is working fine, I noticed that the ethernet connection is not working. I am currently relying on the Wifi connection.

First of all, the USB 10/100/100 LAN network interface is not detected on all thunderbolt 4 ports (only 1 successfully detects the interface). Even then, the status keeps saying "Cable Unplugged: ither the cable for USB 10/100/1000 LAN is not plugged in or the device at the other end is not responding.".

The IPv4 is set to "Using DHCP". Please let me know what can be done here.

Yes, the lights on the monitor receptor are on.

I managed to get it working by using a new Cat7 RJ45 cable (25 feet). But I'm observing a significant speed drop on the wired connection. Getting 80-90 Mbps on ethernet while the Wifi connection easily gives more than 300 Mbps.

Wanted to confirm if this is happening solely because of the wire's length or if there can be other factors at play?

Thanks for the help!

2 questions. Did you make the ethernet cable, or did you buy it?

If you made the cable, then are you sure all your pins are correct? If you do not get the pins correct you can drop from gigabit to 100 megabit or worse 10 megabits.

If you purchased the cable, is it rated for 1 gigabit? There are 100 megabit cables that basically just use 4 wires and not 8.

According the the DELL web site the U2722DE has USB 3.1 gen 2 10gigabit/sec USB ports, so I should be able to drive a gigabit ethernet adapter.

Welcome Rishabh570,

It appears that you're trying to use the ethernet connection from your Dell monitor to connect your MacBook Pro to the internet. Since you're receiving an error message with the LAN network interface, be sure to check for any software or firmware updates that may be available.
