How to import music from my old iPod in to my music library on my MacBook

I located my old iPod and would like to import this music in to my music library on my MacBook. A previous post suggested putting my iPod in disc mode to allow importing music from it. However, I can't find any way to put my A1236 iPod in disc mode.
