iMessage or FaceTime will not allow me to change to a different Apple ID

I have the latest Software Update (iOS 15.4.1) on my iPhone 12. I am trying to change the Apple ID to a different Apple ID account in iMessage or FaceTime... but everytime I click on the Settings>Messages>Send&Receive> Apple ID>Sign Out> Use your Apple ID for iMessage> USE OTHER APPLE ID...It automatically reverts to the original Apple ID that was signed onto the device. It will not give me a new prompt to submit a different Apple ID and password. How can I switch to a DIFFERENT Apple ID? Is this a Glitch in the latest update?

Thank you

Hello chilliewil,

You've walked through great steps to try and change the Apple ID used with iMessage and FaceTime. Before trying to sign in to iMessage with your alternate Apple ID username, have you confirmed that FaceTime is signed out in Settings > FaceTime? If not, make sure you're signed out of FaceTime before trying to sign back in to iMessage with the desired Apple ID.

If you continue to have issues after signing out of both iMessage and FaceTime or you're already signed out of both features, restart your iPhone using the steps listed below. For reference you can also find the steps in the following article.

  1. "Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
  3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo."

Restart your iPhone

Also, is the secondary Apple ID you're attempting to sign in to a different account, or is it an alias to your existing Apple ID?

Have a great day!

I have the same issue, and I'm using a different Apple Id. I've had this configuration for ages, it just stopped working recently.

On the iPhone 13 Pro, when I select "user other Apple ID" , it does not give me a prompt to enter another appleID, it just activates the main one.

I can log into the appleid account I want to use on a computer, and everything looks fine.

It started recently, but a few days ago I got auto logged out of all devices for that secondary AppleID account and had to log back in. Looks like not only did it not log back in iMessage , but I am now blocked from logging in.
