[Solved] August Lock, No Response in Home App
Hey everybody, I figured it out!!!
I’ve setup and reset my 4th Gen August Lock 8 times trying to restore functionality within the Home App. Yup, I can can control the lock from within the August App and even get HomeKit notifications about the lock status…. but couldn’t actually get a response from within the Home App. Today, April 25th 2022 is the LAST day before I can return it to Amazon. I took one last crack at it and figured it out! And when you learn what the issue is…. you just might blow your brains out.
The problem has to do with NOTIFICATIONS! I know… you’re thinking “Ughh, another dumb solution that definitely won’t work.” But it will work, try and see.
- Factory Reset your lock.
- set it up within the August App
- Enable HomeKit in August App
- Do NOT setup WiFi for August Lock yet
- Go to Home App
- Select the lock you just added
- Go to the ‘Setting’ section
- Tap “Status and Notification”
- Disable BOTH “Include in Home Status” and “Activity Notification”
- You’re Welcome!
I think the problem is caused by some security necessity that August MUST give you notifications in order to unlock the device remotely. I believe there may be some sort of internal security conflict having BOTH the August app AND Home App give you notifications. Try playing around with turning notifications on/off for each app and see if you can notice a pattern. (P.s. I don’t think you can turn notifications off within the August app. It has to be done via the System Notifications within the Settings app.
*I discovered the solution by accident. I kept locking/unlocking the lock within the August app trying to fix it…. As you know, it will keep pushing a HomeKit notification. Well, my wife was asleep upstairs and I didn’t want it to bother her, so I tried disabling notifications. Turns out THAT was the fix!
