IOS Gmail app probably still has old password in memory so won’t connect to Gmail. And I can’t change password in Gmail app unless the app is connected to Gmail. Catch22. Any suggestions?

A good question to ask Google since you're using their mail.
Delete the gmail app, restart your phone, and add it back.
iOS Gmail app won’t reconnect after I changed gmail password via laptop browser.
