The incoming email on my Macbook is empty but for a message "This message has no content". If I read the same email on my iPhone the actual content is visible.

I would start here—
Open mail app select Mail>Preferences>Privacy and disable:

I disabled the Mail Privacy.
the existing emails showing only “This message has no content” have not changed.
Hopefully new incoming emails will not have this problem.
