I get a spinning rainbow when I open my mail preferences

How do I fix my mail on my laptop? I get a spinning rainbow when I open Mail Preferences. I can't seem to do anything but close it.

Mail App randomly opens in split-screen My mail app randomly opens in split screen whenever I am using my MacBook Air.
