Running Out of Application Memory on Import

I am tearing my hair out with this. I keep encountering these error, causing everything to freeze and me needing to force quit FCP.

I've scanned forums and discussions and tried all of the following:

  • Disconnected all drives other than the drive the one the footage is on that I'm trying to import.
  • Trashed all preferences and removed plugins.
  • Closed all other programmes
  • Removed Chrome completely.
  • Background Rendering is off

And still, I get this on every and any import. The Memory usage skyrockets to 160GB.

FCP is up to date, I'm running Big Sur on a 3.6 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 with 64GB RAM so this shouldn't be an issue!

Any advice appreciated. I've got a huge multicam project to import and I just can't get any footage in. I don't have this problem with working on an edit, just import.

What computer is this? FCP 10.6.2?

What are you importing, to where? Can you leave files in place, or is this from a card structure?

What exactly happens? You get an error message?

Whenever you have to force quit, trash your preferences, hold ⌥ ⌘ as you launch the application.

Please post an EtreCheck report https://etrecheck.com giving the application Full Disk Access in Privacy System Preferences. Copy the report an d use the Add Text button to paste the result into reply box.
