My 'Desktop' and 'Documents' have disappeared from Favourites. I don't know what I've done, or how to retrieve them. Help!

Hi,
Click on Desktop > Finder Menu > Preferences > Sidebar > Show these items in the sidebar > under Favorites click on Desktop and Documents.
Thank you- but the desktop and documents are ticked on the sidebar, but they don’t appear under favourites in finder. I can’t get into Apple support to chat. Getting more frustrated!
