MacBook Pro will not charge iPad Pro

MacBook Pro 15 inch 2019. MacOs Monterey 12.3.1 iPad Pro 12.9 inch (3rd generation) PadOs 15.4.1

When using my iPad with my MacBook Pro the iPad used to charge. After the recent Monterey release, the iPad will no longer charge. Connection produces the charging sound, there is a momentary (<10 sec) charging arrow on the battery logo, which then disappears. The iPad is recognised by the Mac, backup occurs and screen mirroring can be used, but of course the iPad discharges which makes screen mirroring for prolonged periods impossible.

Please could Apple engineers review this bug introduced with the latest iteration of Monterey?

Has anyone in the Community found a solution? Please don't trouble to suggest PRAM etc. reset, it doesn't work.

Thanks.

Hi lt55,

Have you followed the article about your iPad not charging yet?

First, make sure that you’re using the right accessories
• Connect your iPad to a USB charging cable (preferably the cable that came with your iPad). Then plug the cable into one of these power sources:
• A USB power adapter that’s plugged into a working wall outlet. It's best to use the USB power adapter that came with your iPad. Learn more about Apple USB power adapters.
• A USB port that supports USB 2 or later, on a computer that’s on and not in sleep mode.
• A powered USB hub, docking station, or other Apple-certified accessory.
If your iPad still won’t charge, try these tips
• Use a different power adapter or a different charging cable. If you don’t have those, contact Apple Support.
• Make sure that your iPad isn't too hot or too cold. Learn about keeping your iPad within acceptable operating temperatures.
• Force restart your iPad:
° For an iPad without a Home button: Press and quickly release the volume button closest to the top button. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button. Press and hold the top button until your iPad restarts.
° For an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold both the top (or side) button and the Home button until you see the Apple logo.

I am having the same issue with my MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021) with Montery. When I connect my iPad Pro (12.9 inch/3rd generation/ iOS 15.4.1) directly to a USB-C port, it shows that it is charging at first but then stops. Very inconvenient since I often use it as a secondary monitor when traveling and did not discover the issue until I was away. I have not found a fix.

Thank you for the courtesy of your reply, I had hoped to make it clear in the post that this is an issue of using the iPad connected by USB C to a MacBook Pro, when it used to charge quite happily, but since the latest ‘upgrade’ to Monterey it will no longer charge.

Independent use of the iPad is unaffected, this is a Monterey problem.

I have raised a formal complaint with Apple Support and have a case number.

The support reply was that very few people have this problem (hence it is low priority/refuted as an issue) and the only suggestion was that I re-install the OS from scratch using safe mode. This brings back memories of Windows upgrades which is why I migrated to Mac OS!

If everyone that has this problem makes a support complaint and gets a support case number, then Apple will take notice, so could everyone please make time for this?
