3rd generation Apple TV won’t connect to wifi

My 3rd generation Apple TV will not connect to my wifi or hotspot of any cellular devices. It immediately says the password entered is not correct. There’s is never even an opportunity to enter a password. When the wifi source is selected it makes multiple click sounds very quickly followed by the error message. I’ve plugged Ethernet to device and updated, restarted and later reset the device. Nothing seems to make a difference. Please help!

Success!!

With considerable help and patience from Apple Support (thank you, Kate), my 3rd generation Apple TV is now connected to Wi-Fi.

These are the steps we used. Some may not be needed, but they worked for me.

Please note that this may involve changing security from WPA 3 to WPA 2. You may wish to check to see if this change affects your security.

Also, I am not silly enough to say that just because this worked for me, that it will work for everyone.

1) On your modem settings, change Authentication to "WPA2 - Personal". Mine was on "WPA2/WPA3 Mixed-Personal". Save the setting.

2) Restart your Apple TV.

3) Go to Settings, General, Network. Choose your network. I immediately got the dreaded "Wrong password. Error 100"

The difference this time, was that when I pressed the Menu button again, I was given the chance to enter a password.

It connected on the first try.

I hope it works, for you, too.

Good luck!

Exactly the same problem.

Apple TV, 3rd generation, connects using Ethernet, but not Wi-Fi.

When I select my Wi-Fi network (or type it in after choosing “Other”), it goes straight to “incorrect password, error 100” without giving me a chance to type it in.

The same occurs even when I use my iPhone 8 as a hotspot.

Surely one Apple device should be able to “talk” to another!?!
