Footnotes on Pages

Can you merge documents so the footnotes don't roll over? eg 2 docs (chapters) with five footnotes each become 10 when i merge. Id rather keep it separate...

Hi eldooderino29,

Welcome to the Apple Community.

Seems rather than merging the two chapters:

to keep the footnotes intact, you may need to add the chapter as a new separate section..

Eg: See apple's article: Add and remove sections in Pages on Mac – Apple Support

NB: Scroll to: "Add and format a new section"

Hi eldooderino29,

the process is pretty simple:

On the last page of the first book, click to place the insertion point immediately after the end of the text (OR, if you have inserted a Page Break at that point, Select the Page Break ).

Go to the Insert menu and choose Section Break.

Click on the page below the one with the section break.

Click the Document button to open the Document Inspector.

In the inspector, Click Section to open the section pane.

Ensure that the checkbox beside "Match previous Section is unchecked.

Further down, click to select the Start with button and set the box to 1.

In the Document:

Check that the page number on the first page of the second book is 1. If it is missing, click on the header or footer box which is to contain it, then select the Format to use. (Ignore the numbers used in the format—they're derived from the pages of the whole document, and will be corrected in the header or footer on being inserted.

Here's the result for my test document.

Page number in the left box of the footer is for the second page of the first section.

Page number in the centre of the Header of the next page is the first page of that section.

Regards,

Barry
