No space available msg, after I deleted file from thumb drive-iPad 13 pro

I downloaded a file to a thumb drive connected to my iPad, decided to delete it, it was the only file. When I attempted to download the same file, I received a space availability message. The drive says 0 files. I can't find a way to erase, clean, or format from my iPad. Any suggestions.

Thank you,

Neil

Nkohrn1,

When you have the thumb drive connected, navigate to the Trash file and see if that deleted file is there. If so, empty the trash. When you delete a file, it is actually moved to the Trash file and not fully removed from the drive until the Trash is emptied. This allows you to recover the file and move it back if you change your mind.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards.

Hey there Nkohrn1,

Since seeing the message regarding your storage, have you attempted to delete any other items, or have you restarted your iPad to refresh the software? If not, this will be the first set of steps we recommend taking to help. The steps below will help with managing storage:

Go to Settings > General > [Device] Storage. You might see a list of recommendations for optimizing your device's storage, followed by a list of installed apps and the amount of storage each one uses. Tap an app's name for more information about its storage. Cached data and temporary data might not be counted as usage.
In the detailed view you can:
Offload the app, which frees up storage used by the app, but keeps its documents and data.
Delete the app, which removes the app and its related data.
Depending on the app, you might be able to delete some of its documents and data.
If your device is almost full and can't free up space, you might get a Storage Almost Full alert. If you see this alert, you should check the storage recommendations or you need to offload some less-used content like videos and apps.

Take care!

Thank you for your response. Let me clarify, this is an external drive, not the iPad. To answer your initial question, yes, I did a hard reboot.

The dilemma is, the thumb drive had enough space when I initially downloaded the file. I deleted the file from the drive, verified no data on the drive, when I attempt to DL the same file, I received the message.
