Incoming messages, mail, etc. notifications cause a ping with a series of echo pings. Looking at questions from others, I'm not the only user that has this problem. Can anyone tell me what is causing this problem?

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Actually, when I saw the answer I ran a "Full User Clean" my son set up for me in MainMenu, which pretty much does what Safe Boot is described as doing. It solved the problem for me. I'm 84 and have to say I sometimes forget to do the standard house cleaning until trip over something. Thanks for the reminder.
