Apple TV 4K Dolby Atmos sound problems in Netflix

My issues have been resolved. After 15.5.1 update I noticed it was better but not completely fixed. Then jbl pushed out a firmware update for my jbl Bar 9.1. The firmware was to address issues with atmos. I have not had any problems since with Apple TV and my surround playing nice with each other in a few weeks.

You might also want to make sure your tvOS is fully updated to the latest, 15.4.1.

Update your Apple TV

If that doesn't help, or your tvOS is fully updated, next you may need to delete then reinstall the Netflix app:

It’s not just you. It happens on two different soundbars that I own. And there are articles in the last few days coming out of others complaining about this issue. Even over on Reddit. It’s a Apple problem that needs to be addressed. The fix I have found is either back out of what you are watching and restart the show/movie. Or change audio to dolby digital in settings.

Earlier you mentioned that this issue doesn't happen with all apps, but happens consistently with Netflix. If that's the case, you may want to contact the developer instead:

Open the App Store on your Apple TV.

Search for the app, then choose it.

The app's product page appears. Scroll to the bottom of the page. Find the developer's website in the Information section.

Same issue here, my audio only drops out with Netflix. Only happens with my new AppleTV 4k purchased 3/2022. My setup is Samsung 4kTV, with my Yamaha TSR-700 Receiver running fiber HDMI cable. No issues until I replaced my 2021 AppleTV 32gb with this new 64gb AppleTV. If I go back to settings and turn off Atmos, sound works with no audio drops. Unfortunately, I no longer have the 32gb AppleTV. Would love to see Apple address this issue....

This is still an ongoing issue with Netflix on the Apple app. It only happens when playing Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos content WHEN hooked up to an external AVR. It happens repeatedly. I have tested it with other apps and it’s no problem it’s only Netflix. Netflix says it’s an Apple issue however as Dolby Atmos works on the other platforms supported

I have a gen 1 and gen 2 32gb Apple TV 4K. I can say it does it on both devices. Some apps are worse than others for dropout/crackling with atmos. Apple TV+/Apple movies app and Netflix are the worst offenders. But I’ve had it happen on Disney plus and paramount plus as well. On my vizio soundbar the audio just completely cuts outs. On my jbl bar 9.1 it will start crackling and drop parts of audio right before the rear speakers cut out and the soundbar itself will have crackling and audio drop.

I’m not sure how you go about reporting it. I believe it’s just something on their end they need to fix with Atmos content rather than being a streaming box issue itself. It used to work fine. Then with one of the updates it now does not.

I've had the Atmos issue with the dropouts on both of my Apple TV 4K (4th Gen) boxes for the past year. It's an issue and Apple just needs to address it. Stop the blame game and let us know if a fix is coming. I've tried all the "fixes"....nothing works except to turn off Atmos! I bought these two boxes to use that feature, not to just shut it off.

I can confirm it happens in all apps more so in Apple TV and movies and Apple TV plus app. But it does happen on all the other apps that have dolby atmos. Just happened to me on paramount plus app a few min ago watching halo.

No. And it needs to be addressed. It’s one of the best parts of their device and why we spend so much on our audio devices to get the best out of them. Hoping they are working on it because it’s annoying.
