Monterey Bricked my (2015) MacBook Pro - Decrypted (?)

I have a 2015 MBP. A couple of months ago I finally upgraded to Monterey. Big Mistake!! It was running fine for a couple of months until it just suddenly shut off during running Safari. When I powered it back on, it hangs about 1/3 of the way across the status bar. And hangs, for hours. Then, I started up it in the utility mode. I tried to (re)install Monterey and it tells me "You may not install to this volume because it is currently being decrypted". I have been trying all week to figure this out, and I cannot.

If I have to, I will erase the HD, although I would rather not, there are a couple of files that I should have backed them up.

What does that even mean, "decrypted", and why have a NEVER seen that any through multiple macOS's, 3 different MBPs and my home Mac. To say I am frustrated, is an understatement.

Thank you in advance.
