Wireless connection is too weak to unlock with apple watch

I have a new(ish) MacBookPro 16in M1. I am getting "Wireless connection is too weak to unlock with apple watch" whenever waking it up. Usually it works if I click 'Cancel' and try again (as others have suggested) - but sometimes it needs several attempts. I don't think it's a watch issue as it unlocks my iMac (which is further away) reliably.

Is the connection via wireless LAN or bluetooth? No issues here with either otherwise.

Is this likely to be a hardware issue with the MBP or software?

OS 12.3.1; Apple Watch Series 4 OS8.5.1; iPhone !2 Pro OS 15.4.1

I'm sorry-- I didn't say it right. I only re-booted my watch once. It has worked since that time, except that sometimes I must cancel the log in and re-try. It seems to just not pick up the watch as quickly as I push the buttons. But, again, I don't re-boot the watch or the computer. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I just got a MBP 2021 Apple M1 Pro and have an old Series 2 Apple Watch.

Solid failure on unlock. Never works. Messed around on checking/unchecking option on Mac. Restarted watch several times.

I have an old MBP 2014 and rock Solid acceptance on unlock with watch (and an older Mac mini too). Could my Watch be too old to support this on new MBP? Did somebody drop some function on option on new MBP and old watches ?

Hate to upgrade watch just for this?

The watch is very near to my macbook. But is buggish or watch os or macos. I’m just send feedback to apple, but than ventura the bug is enjoy there. At this moment i use only touch id, the unlock with apple watch don’t work. About this aspect apple is very pick down.
