trying to set up a new imap email account but get the following error message:
Unable to verify account name or password
Called IONOS and they asked me to open their webmail website and log in, which I successfully did,
so email address and password are correct and working. The told me to CONTACT Apple as this would be an Apple problem..... what do I do now?

Did they tell you is they Required an Application Specific Password generated from their Site and to be used in the Apple Mail Application
I see little to no information listed but does not mean it not there.
Much like Apple does for using Non Apple e--mail clients to access iCloud Mail
I actually kept trying with the the same information and eventually it worked. I suspect that there was a delay in establishing the password I had set-up before and verify it during my set-up. So the issue was solved but I don't have a clear understanding why ;)
