Red badge for unread email no longer showing

Right now I have unread email in Mail on my iPhone 12. There used to be a number indicator in the dock showing how many unread messages there are, but that indicator seems to be gone. I have tried to set this up under

Settings, Notifications, Mail…but there is no option to select a notification method.

Hi there elons,

Does this occur with new email messages you receive, or have you narrowed it down to only the ones currently unread?

As you have a compatible model, the latest version is iOS 15.4.1. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. Here's a link that'll show how to first back up, then Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Have you already tried a restart? If not, this link shows how to Restart your iPhone.

Cheers!
