Date and time in my Mac goes wrong in automatic mode.

I raised an apple support case for this. We repeated the steps and they grabbed the logs. After the case was escalated they instructed me to run this command from the terminal. sudo mv /var/db/timed/com.apple.timed.plist ~/Destop ; sudo reboot

Now when I set the date and time automatically from the system preferences it sets the correct date and time as expected. Hopefully this simple trick might help others.

I have an MacBookAir Monterey 12.4 and the same problem. My date goes backwards 143 days (June>Jan) when using the automatic date/time setting with time.apple.com in settings. I now have an applescript setup to run sntp manually, the debug option seems to be required for this to work reliably.

It is possible that you have some form of malware or a weird software conflict causing this.

Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here. Use the "additional text" button and paste the report into the text box.

The mention of x86 applications is just a reminder that they may not work in the future and, in case of an Apple Silicon mac, there may be newer versions. This in and of itself is not a big deal.

You should post the whole report. Things that you attach no importance to may be recognized by other users as possible issues.

There are still remnants of avg as per the report.

At this point, I think it is worth testing with a different ntp server to see if that makes any difference.

There are many around the world. From the time of your Etrecheck report, I take it that you are you in Western Europe - is that right? Perhaps in the UK? I am in the same timezone (Portugal).

Nothing major. It's worried about AVG antivirus and flags 5 x86 apps but doesn't reveal which ones...

AVG removed and rebooted. Full report attached. No change to behaviour. Automatic update reverts to 143 days behind current date.

Is your time zone set correctly?

System Preferences->Date & Time->Time Zone

Have you followed the steps in the Related Article above? Is Apple selected as the server?

You should really uninstall avg. It does not offer any protection and could well be part of the problem.
