Music widget not accessing recently played

The Music widget still does not access recently played albums or playlists. Does anyone know how to fix?

Hi Miehl,

Have you tried removing the widget and adding it again? If not, that's a great place to start: Use widgets on your iPhone and iPod touch - Apple Support

  1. Touch and hold the widget that you want to remove.
  2. Tap Remove Widget.
  3. Tap Remove again to confirm.

If the issue continues, check your iOS software. If there is an available update, be sure to back up first: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Take care.

Hey Miehl,

It sounds like this happens no matter the type of widget. Where are you selecting inside of the widget? If you are selecting on a specific song, it should bring you to that specific album/single. Unless you select on the top of it, which should bring you directly to that specific playlist.

In this case, it would be best to connect with Apple Support directly: Apple Support

They are the pros, so they'll take it from here.

Wishing you the best, take care.

Hello Miehl,

You mentioned it hasn't worked properly in iOS 15. Does the entire Widget not work or just with Apple Music? The Music widget should show what content was recently played, paused, or recently added to your library.

When you attempt to tap on this widget, are you receiving any errors or alerts when it opens the Music app? When you try to select a specific song, does it play?

Is this widget on your Home Screen, Today View, or a stack?

The more we understand about what's going on, the better we can assist.

Wishing you well, cheers.

The problem is not with Apple Music. The problem is that when you click on a recently played album (or playlist) it doesn’t go to the selected album, but just opens the music app.

there are not error messages, it just doesn’t go to the selected album.

have tried the app in different sizes, on different screens and in stacks. Still won’t work.

Apple have not been able to help. They want me to reset the entire phone, but since I see the same problem on other iPhones I haven’t done that.

This is my home screen. When I click on one of the four recently played albums (Top Gun etc.), it should bring me to that specific album, but it just opens the music app; same as if I had clicked on that app in the bottom of the Home Screen.

the widget is called “recently played” and it worked with iOS 14, so it must be a malfunction.
