Whatsapp notifications

Starting a week ago, my wife says that she started to not receive whatapp notifications unless whatsapp IS open. Indeed, when I try to send her a message, my device show only "one tick" and as soon as Whatsapp is open, 2-ticks appear. Locking back her iphone immediately and sending another message goes correctly and notification appears. A minute later, while iphone is still locked, the same happens - message is one-tick, no notification.

Device is XR (and a couple of months ago, after dropping the phone, FaceID stopped working, but otherwise alll is functioning ok). iOS 15.4.1, whatsapp latest version. There is enough storage space on the phone, Whatsapp backup is around 1,9GB (so, ok). I've tried resetting network settings, no luck. The same happens over wifi and over cellular.

Anyone some ideas? Thanks

iPhone XR

Salutations Ranettius,

We can provide you with a few steps to take before connect with the developers for the app.

First, update the device to iOS 15.5, after making a backup.

Back up iPhone

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Verify that the app is up to date, after installing the iOS update - How to manually update apps on your Apple device

Check to be sure Background App Refresh is enabled and that WhatsApp is enabled in there as well. Those settings are in Settings > General > Background App Refresh.

If there is any VPN or security software in use, temporarily remove it, restart the device and test again.

Reinstalling the app is also an option Redownload apps and games from Apple

Finally, here is the link to WhatsApp Support - Contact WhatsApp

Thanks.
