Car Play via cable not working with iPhone 12

I own a 2017 Hyundai iLoad, which features Apple CarPlay via usb cable connection.

I am able to get CarPlay working with iPhone 8 and 11, but not with iPhone 12 (tested 3 x separate iPhone 12s).

As it works with i8 & i11, the problem is not the car. It’s also not the cable. It’s also not the iOS, the i11 had the same iOS 15.4.1. The problem is i12.

does anyone know a setting or function in the i12 that is different to earlier devices, that I might need to changes.

thanks

Rob

Hi Dardy_Rob,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! The first step we recommend is updating to the current iOS version, iOS 15.5 by following the steps in the article below:

Hi Lissy

thank you for trying to help. I updated my phone to iOS 15.5 and was hopeful that this would fix it.

unfortunately it did not, so I’m still looking for a solution.

Thanks also for linking me to the help resource. I have looked at it previously and found it’s usefulness to be pretty limited for those using cables. I can confirm that I am able to get CarPlay to work with an iPhone 8 and an iPhone 11 using the same cables and using the same port that I am failing with an iPhone 12. I have also been able to confirm the problem with a different iPhone 12.

I would still be grateful for any other suggestions you may have to make this work. For instance, in settings I have ensured that USB accessories are turned on when locked I. “Face ID and Passcode”. Perhaps there is another setting on the phone that needs to be changed?

Regards

Rob

Dardy_Rob,

Thank you for trying those steps. You mentioned you tried the same cables on other devices and they worked, however are you able to test another cable on your device to test the issue? Are all features not working or is it multiple apps, or just specific ones? Are you able to connect to the vehicle stereo via Bluetooth? When you connect your iPhone, are you able to charge it when it's connected to the stereo?

If so, we recommend that you reach out to Apple Support directly. Please reach out here:

My iPhone 12 Pro Max is the same, it’s been working on and off for the last 3-4 months was working fine for a week then all of a sudden since iOS15.5 it’s stopped working. Gonna have to give Apple support a call because I believe it’s a software issue with iPhone 12s I have an iPhone 7 running an older version of iOS and I have no issue with CarPlay on that one. I have 2 cars that have CarPlay and both don’t work. Also if I go to CarPlay settings on my phone, the phone pauses for a couple of seconds when you tap on car play settings and none of my previously connect cars appear on there. Sounds like a software bug to me
