Google Chrome Helper (Renderer) using ridiculous amount of memory and cpu.

I have one tab in Google Chrome open playing a YouTube video, and Google Chrome Helper (Renderer) is using 65% of my CPU, 400 MB of RAM, and 1.11 TB of virtual memory. This is simply ridiculous and must be a bug, right? There's no way one single YouTube tab is eating up over 1 TB of virtual memory.

How can I fix this?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 11.5

Chromium based browsers are resource hogs. They also tend to get corrupted after a while. You may need to clear the browser cache. I recently found with Vivaldi that I had to actually clear the "Storage" which greatly improved the performance of the browser (I use no browser extensions). This setting for Vivaldi is accessible from the Tools menu --> Delete Browsing Data.... option, so I'm not sure if Chrome has a similar option or where the option is located. This cut down on the extremely high CPU & memory utilization I had been experiencing with the browser which is common with Chromium based browsers.
