How to change the style of a single bar on a bar chart

I've done this before, and now I don't remember how I've done it.

I have a bar chart (in Numbers and in Keynote).

I want one of the bars to get the attention; I want to give it a different color than all of the other bars. I can change the bar color on the series, but then all of the bars get the new color.

Please remind me of what I've forgotten.

A series is one color. If you need a data point to be a different color it must be plotted as a second series. You can use the stacked column chart. In the example below I used two new columns in the table, assuming the data point was "special" based on some characteristic (I chose MAX). You could do it with just one new column if you manually put some of your data in one column and the special point in another.

Another method is with two charts, one on top of the other. I started setting it up in the screenshot below. The second chart needs to be sized to be the same as the first then you remove all elements other than the bar (i.e., no grid lines, axis value labels, etc) and slide it on top of the first one. I also moved the second legend to the right so they didn't overlap in the final.
