move stock apps

I've downloaded and installed a bunch of apps I need and it's getting crowded. How do I arrange all the stock apps I never use on my mac (mini) into a folder to keep things a bit tidy? Its a Monterey on M1.


I made a "Unused" folder under "Applications" and dragged anything I don't use often in there, but they don't "move".

I am not a regular user of apple products, so I'm clearly missing some obvious trick or point to this that regular users know, because it's not behaving at all like it would on Windows or on my linux Mint16 setup, so I'm struggling to clean up the apps "shortcut" folder a bit. It's not really a shortcut is it, why is this not simple enough to tidy for me? There is a utilities folder, so I'm a bit perplexed today?

If you're trying to clean up the Launchpad view of applications that are installed on your Mac, the options are very limited.

Nesting application into another folder within the Applications folder will have no effect on their display in Launchpad. And LP isn't user friendly when it comes to its organizational skills.


Below is how I've managed my Launchpad screen in macOS Catalina. My OCD forced me to alphabetize things via drag-and-drop, which is wholly unnecessary if the search bar at the top is used after invoking LP. But note that apps can be placed in groups by dropping one app on top of the other, then giving the group a name, as I've done. You'll also note that LP can have more than one page of apps to display, as indicated by multiple dots at the bottom. When using a trackpad, a two-finger swipe one way or another will reveal the other page(s).
