Getting into an iPhone
My friend gave me his iPhone because I currently don’t have one. He doesn’t know what Apple ID is connected to the phone and doesn’t remember the passcode so how do I factory reset the phone?

Then you can sign in with own your Apple ID.
If the above doesn't work, if your friend is the original owner, have them contact Apple. Apple can remove the ID if provided the required paperwork to include the original purchase receipt with the serial number on it.
