Wireless Carplay disconnects at the same place on my commute with new iPhone 13

Hello

I got a new iPhone 13 a few days ago, and I have noticed that wireless CarPlay disconnects at the same point on my daily commute each day. I drive this way everyday and this never happened when I had my old phone which was an iPhone 11.

I have the exact same issue. In Cambridge, MA at Fresh Pond / Mt Auburn outside of Harvard Square- my 2022 Porsche Cayenne loses connection from my iPhone 14 Pro. Same spot, every time. Coming and going, either direction. I made Porsche replace the PCM computer module in the car this week ($8k) and Apple replaced my iPhone 14 Pro just this week as well. This morning the exact same thing, same location…music started to cut out then screen faded to black. Phone disconnects and nothing works.

In an attempt to isolate it, I turned Bluetooth and Wi-Fi off on my phone and engaged a phone call in each direction this morning and there were zero connectivity issues…phone calls were clear as day without interruption.

Then, I tried another test- put the phone into airplane mode (allowed the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to remain active) and the cellular service was switched off…the issue DID happen again- music cut out and screen blacked out.

This is 100% an apple issue…it began with my iPhone 12 Pro after one of the updates last Spring (‘22). Prior to that my phones never had an issue in this vehicle or any other that I have owned over the past decade. Having replaced all of the hardware it is clear this is a software or Wi-Fi issue Apple has created.

really stinks having spent so much time and money replacing parts to realize this is Apple’s problem….

I am facing the same exact issue. It’s not time related but place related. This happens to me at many places. One such place is in Richardson TX, when I am driving on highway 75, exactly when I pass E Campbell Rd. It’s a regular place. No overhead wires or anything. I am using iPhone 13 Pro Max on my 2023 Acura Integra. Same used to happen on 2022 Honda Civic. Both have same systems. I don’t have other models of iPhones to test this. I will try this on 2022 Audi Q3 sometime later when I get a chance.

CarPlay screen either freezes or disconnects and reconnects. When the screen freezes, audio works fine in background. Only if I turn off WiFi Bluetooth and turn back on, it reconnects again. Until that point it’s shows the same frozen screen. It’s same issue even if I don’t use use any navigation apps. Just Spotify.

Hey, I have also this problem.

I´ve noticed it happens with my iPhone 13 Pro at the same specific points in my city (Aguascalientes, MX). I haven´t noticed there are any electrical grids in any of them or something that would interfere with the connection, so I guess it must be a software issue, my brother-in-law also has it.

To add to this: for me, this issue is not limited to CarPlay. It affects my other Bluetooth devices as well. When I go for a run, the music stops at the same intersection/place that my CarPlay stops working on my commute. So it’s a Bluetooth issue probably related to location services. I may try changing some location settings and permissions to see if it affects anything

i have this issue too, it’s disconnecting when I go outside of a 100m radius from my home or enter about a 50m radius to my home. I’m quite sure it has nothing to do with WiFi connecting or something as the distance is too great for that and there are buildings blocking the signal.

I do have a Nuki doorlock that is changing status (ready to unlock and ‘away’ mode) pretty much exactly at these distances. I have the feeling that whatever the Nuki app does is interfering with CarPlay.

actually it will be easy to test this and I’ll do this on my next trip. I’ll disable all the options in settings for Nuki app.

will post results here soon

There are two places where I encounter it, going from the Mid-Cities to Fort Worth, I lose it just after the bridge over the Trinity as you are passing Richland Hills and entering Haltom City, that one lasts the longest but it does eventually reconnect, the second one is as you are passing Sylvania and approaching I35, that one is very quick. AT&T is aware of both issues, the one at the bridge/trinity is because there is no place that they can put a tower that will cover 121 due to the river and flood plain. This affects all carriers. The second one is more of a mystery to them but has never been fixed. I also get a deteriorating signal at Campbell and lose it shortly after that for about a minute. Same thing near Bachman Lake due to the airport.

There won't be anything anything that Apple and the carriers can do about the ones where they can't place a tower due to property/radar/airport. There is also a spot in Reston, Virginia where everything fails, including the car navigation but that is for a different reason and again nothing can be done.

As a Dallas guy, loosing GPS in Ft. Worth is a horrible situation to be in, lol. I have another spot in Dallas on 75 it happens at, someone else had posted about that one in this thread.

It does help to know that it’s not just me, or my devices. I’ll see what happens when I limit my phone to LTE when on CarPlay and see if that helps.

That said, I’m really getting fed up with AT&T around here. I got where I couldn’t send MMS pictures at home. I jumped off my Wi-Fi, and I had 4 bars of 5G, but couldn’t do anything data related, phone calls was it. I called AT&T, the girl was really helpful, she pulled up the tower info and it had a note that it was limited to voice calling only, they are waiting on parts, and they won’t be in till December. So I can’t send pictures via MMS at home, and I do a lot of home automation stuff, and when I get home there are things that happen when I’m inside the geofence. That’s great and all, but my phone has no data connection, so it can’t send out that I’m in the geofence. I had to turn it all off, because when I would leave, my phone would send out “inside fence” but the signal wouldn’t go thru, then I would leave the geofence, and it’s trying to send “outside fence” when I finally get a data connection again, I guess it is still trying to send both, and “outside fence” gets sent first, then “inside fence”. So I’d leave, and 3 mins later my garage door would open up.

So after going all the way to escalated support, the gentleman on the phone told me a couple things to try that finally fixed my issue with this.

obviously I tried all the basics but didn’t work, what actually did work was resetting my phone network settings and going through my location services and turning things off for everything/apps that I don’t use or need locations for. I believe the problematic app was most likely the Alexa app in the end.

for context: every time I left home about 1 minute into the drive my CarPlay cut over to my cars phone audio speaker when you are on a phone call and it only comes from the console speaker, then when I came home the same thing would happen when I was about 100ft from my house. Driving an Acura Tlx 2022 with updated software. This followed me from my 12 pro max when upgrading to the 14 pro max. I always had to push my CarPlay button and just said “no” for it to connect back to my regular speakers.
