mu Apple CarPlay is making a static/crackling sound when playing music. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have a iPhone 13 pro if that matters.

Hi Baileyhubb8,

Thanks for your post to Apple Support Communities. Let's rule out what might be going on to cause the static you hear when playing music through CarPlay.

First, make sure your iOS is fully updated to iOS 15.5. Go to Settings > General > Software Update.

Next, make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.

If the issue still isn't resolved, reply back letting us know if you also hear static when playing music through your iPhone speaker, headphones, or another Bluetooth accessory (speaker, not CarPlay). Also test other audio through CarPlay from your iPhone like phone calls or videos. The goal will be to narrow down what the static is related to.

We look froward to hearing back from you.

Best regards.

I have a 2019 Audi Q5 (owned it since new) and this crackling began last fall. My husband and I both have iPhone 14 Plus’ with the latest iOS always installed, and the issue happens regardless of which phone we are using. It’s worse when listened to podcasts, but also happens with music. As many people have stated, there’s no issue when I play podcasts or music through Bluetooth. Have purchased a brand new Apple USB cord and it didn’t fix the issue.

We didn’t notice an issue with our previous iPhone 12 Plus’, iPhone 11 Max’s, or iPhone XS Max’s.

Very irritating.

I'm having the same issue with my Jeep Renegade MY2021.

After a while, the sound cracks, especially when using both a navigation app and another one to stream music (Apple Music, Spotify or anything else).

It looks like it cannot handle all of these sounds and processes going on together. I have an iPhone 13 PRO 512GB updated to the latest iOS 16.5.1.

I replaced my car radio unit (uconnect) but nothing has changed.

I'm seriously thinking about moving back to Android as Apple seems not to care about people having issues with its expensive products and devices.

Just to throw in a me too. I have an iPhone SE with 17.4 and it does it when playing music though seems to be more so when there is heavier base. Sounds fine through the phone's speakers. I ran it through the USB-A and C ports with different lightening jack cables. Both were from Apple.

It has to be something with the "newer" iPhones. I have been using an iPod 4 for a fair number of years and it still works fine with no static distortion.

I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel with the 12" Uconnect 4 and the latest firmware.

Same issue here. My Xm radio works fine. Usually when I first connect on Bluetooth or plug in, my iPhone 14 makes a strong static noise, especially with bass sounds, that is very irritating. It didn’t do this when I first got the car. It’s a 2020 Hyundai Elantra with only 17k miles on it. (No accidents or trouble with speakers or radio otherwise). Dealer confirmed im

up to date on software and it’s not a car issue. I’m thankful that I’m not the only one with this issue but I really want a way to make this work. I want my music and the static is so irritating. Please- I just want music that doesn’t shake the speakers. Since it’s several car types, it seems like Apple can do something to fix it. It’s not like

these phones are cheap. The least they can do is connect properly.

I’m having the same problem. It’s awful. I thought at first it was a volume issue on my phone but I’ve tried everything. I’m so frustrated with CarPlay. You’d think with a 60k car it could have something like this working. First work problems I know- but I wouldn’t have spent this much money on something that isn’t going to work. I’m ready to be done and go back to manual rolling windows and an FM radio!

Pretty sure apple not even aware of that problem… or they aware but can not do anything, since lots of people have the same issue and they have it since 2021. And even here at the discussion apple support team not answering or they just recommend to restart phone or multimedia… which means they are not aware that dealers promise that this will be fixed with an update

I have the same issues as @Charlie2167. I have a 2021 Nissan Murano. I am experiencing terrible static during voice calls only. No issue with music. I’ve tried plugging into the USB-C port as well as the USB-A port. I also tried with different MFI approved cables, but no improvement. I also tried with different phones (iPhone XR and iPhone 12 Pro), but same issues. I did not have this issue with my previous vehicle (2018 Nissan Maxima). I would love to have this issue resolved.
