Hi Baileyhubb8,

Thanks for your post to Apple Support Communities. Let's rule out what might be going on to cause the static you hear when playing music through CarPlay.

First, make sure your iOS is fully updated to iOS 15.5. Go to Settings > General > Software Update.

Next, make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.

If the issue still isn't resolved, reply back letting us know if you also hear static when playing music through your iPhone speaker, headphones, or another Bluetooth accessory (speaker, not CarPlay). Also test other audio through CarPlay from your iPhone like phone calls or videos. The goal will be to narrow down what the static is related to.

We look froward to hearing back from you.

Best regards.

My iPhone 13 was working fine 2 days ago, now the volume keys aren’t as responsive and at full volume it sounds like it’s only playing at half volume. And my CarPlay is up to date and never had a problem now it says I’m on a phone call when I’m playing music in my 2016 Mazda CX-5. When I try Bluetooth it also says I’m on a call and the audio isn’t as good when this happens. Audio plays great when it’s playing the radio. I’ve never had this problem before and my phone is on iOS 15.6.1

Senseielo, thanks for the tip, but what we’re trying to say is, the problem needs to be addressed. $50k price tag and not everything works. I never had this issue in my 2020 Grand Cherokee.

The last time I bought an adapter was for my 2009 Altima lol it doesn’t seem to do it with BT, just CarPlay. But I plug my phone in to charge in my way home from work.

Anyway, hardheaded I guess, and I’m glad there is a way to get around the problem, but I probably won’t be spending another $50.

Apple, are you even listening. You keep providing the same solution to go back and set up CarPlay again. The issue is that wireless CarPlay, newer iPhones, newer cars are unable to make phone calls over CarPlay because the receiving person hears an echo which makes them unable to hear the caller. I have done extensive research on forums to include this one and there is no solution. Changing the carrier settings has not worked, hard restarts have not worked, plugging the phone in using usb has not worked, turning down the volume has not worked. In addition, when playing music over CarPlay there is static and feedback. When I play music through the Amazon app or any other media, there is no static. This is an issue with Apple and CarPlay. PLEASE figure it out and respond to us (not just directing us back to the link on how to set up CarPlay.

I've just come away from iPhone had enough of apple fobbing me off with crap blaming my vehicles radio just moved to s23 ultra and have no issues with android auto in my VW work van

No crackle and no distored phone calls I miss my apple watch ultra that's it but it doesn't make me miss it enough to go back to iPhone I cannot stand the crappy noise issues for it to never get fixed

Can't really blame my radio when android auto doesn't cause this issue apple need to pull their finger out and quick

Maybe using the phone with a case and a phone magnet mount might fix the sound issues but I want to use car play

Have a 2021 Murano and like everyone else here I have the same problem with crackling phone calls on CarPlay. All of the other apps, music, messaging, Spotify, Maps, Waze etc work fine. The crackling phone calls are so bad they become unintelligible. Sometimes the crackling goes away after several minutes of conversation but ultimately returns. It's so annoying. Just by the numbers it does seem to be primarily a Nissan issue.
