iphone 13 wireless charging problems

Just upgraded from X to 13. I got a Otterbox Defender case, but when I put it on my Qi charger, it didn't work. I switched to the Otterbox Commuter case, and it sort of works, but it's very finicky. It needs to be placed EXACTLY right and even still will sometimes fall out of charging. Frequently I wake up to a phone that hasn't charged. My old X worked with tons of tolerance with a Defender case.

So here's the real kicker. I took my wife's X and put it into my 13 Defender case. It charges without any problems! Lots of lateral tolerance and everything. I put my 13 into the exact same case, on the exact same charger, and it doesn't work. Huh?

Do I have a defective 13 or did they change something (for the worse) on the 13?

That doesn't follow at all. If I had a single case and a dozen iPhone 13s, and all of the 13's charged fine in the case except for one, would you still say "the issue is with the case" or would you suspect that maybe there was something wrong with that one 13 that didn't charge?

Have you tried charging your iPhone without a case? Does that make a difference? What about using the cable that came with your iPhone, do you have any issues with charging connected with a cable?

Thank you for that information. If your phone charges without the case, but will not charge when in the case, then the issue is with the case. If the case manufacturer says that it should charge the iPhone when in the case and it doesn't, then we would have to recommend discussing the issues with the case manufacturer.

Both the cases say they're compatible with wireless charging. I think the point though is that my 13 won't charge in the Defender case, but if I put an iPhone X INTO THE EXACT SAME CASE (It actually fits into a 13 case even though the cutouts and button locations are wrong), it charges just fine.

I'm thinking that the only options here are either the 13 is not as good at wireless charging as the X was, or else I have a defective 13.

Charging without a case works fine. Charging with a cable also works fine. It's only when I add a case that I start having problems with wireless charging.
