How to resolve Slow Email Opening on macOS Monterey 12.4

Seems like ever since my Mac OS Monterey was updated to 12.4, I've had a lot of problems opening my email. I can click on the email envelope to open my email and wait a minute or so for my emails to be downloaded. Then when I click on the email to open, it only opens to show who it's from and the subject, but it may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes to fully open the message of the email. Even if it's only 2 or 3 lines. Normally, I could click on the email and it would open completely, whether it was an ad or a letter from someone. Has anyone else had this slow email opening problem?

Here is what worked for me today 6/26/22 (OS Monterey 12.4 on iMac). I went into Mail>Preferences>Privacy and unchecked "Protect Mail Activity." I made sure "Hide IP Address" was checked. Suddenly all my emails will open. It was taking 1-2 minutes or more every day since the last OS update. What a relief. I hope this is useful for you.

Today I started Mail, (Monterey build 12.4),

  1. and the first mail shows its content.
  2. As I move from one mail to another and back again, the content is still there.
  3. and when I do that 3-4 times, then all at once the contents are not shown anymore. Then the lag starts.

So to me it seems like this too is a memory leakage problem. [One in which the Mail memory gets sort of saturated, exhausted]

Oh yes, I have changed the pointer of the mouse to being static (and unfortunately, in some programs the curser is not seen while typing.)

Seems like a lot of people are having the same problem. I noticed my email not opening right away about the same time they did the last macOS Monterey Version 12.4 update. I already had someone check my computer and they couldn't find a problem, so this tells me it has something to do with the last update. I would think Apple would have done something about this by now. I'm waiting to see what happens after the next update. I'm not going to blame my computer and run out and buy a new one, if that's what Apple is hoping for.

Thanks for all the replies. Obviously, this is a glitch in Apple's macOS Monterey Version 12.4 & 12.5. I've tried most things people have suggested and no change. Had an Apple Tech to my house and even took it into the Apple repair and no one seems to be able to tell me the same thing twice. Everyone has a different theory. Guess I'll just have to wait until a new mac OS comes out other than Monterey.

Actually, I didn't see an Additional Text button, that's why I ended up sending it in smaller chunks. I guess it came over ok. That stuff is all Greek to me. I did figure out how to Uninstall "CleanMy Mac". When I had a Tech out to my house, he saw that in my file and said it was safe, so he added it to my tool bar. That was a problem I had for years with Windows, when I downloaded a program I wanted, they would sneak in a virus or something. I try not to download anything on my Mac unless it comes from Apple. I use my Mac for check what's happening in the world, Stock Market, Email and search for where to buy something. I also have FCPX for my editing movies. I have 2 external hard drives added to my system for saving my videos in. One is 1TB and one is 2 TB. There's still a lot of space on both, plus over 600GB on the Mac hard drive. This Mac has been sufficient enough for me, but if i ever get another Mac, it will have more hard drive and RAM. I used Windows for over 20 years. This is the first Mac I've had and I'm still learning after 6 years. After Uninstalling "CleanMyMac" I found several folders in the "Download" section, so I moved them to trash. I hope that was right. I'll run Etrecheck again sometime next week. Thanks for your help.

Everything I try works for a few times then back to the same problem. The only way I can get emails to open (usually) is to close mail and reopen. Then I have access. I put my computer in "sleep mode" when not using it, maybe shutting it down would improve the email issue however it takes a while to start up. No real resolution unfortunately. Running Monterey 12.5 BTW.

I have 2 large imac's and I initially noticed the very slow opening of emails, 1-2 minutes each time on my 2017 iMac. When I called Apple they said that was normal obsolescence of software and that then only way to solve the problem was buy a new iMac , they couldn't and wouldn't do anything to solve the problem. Now I also have the problem on my other iMac a 2019 although it only happens some of the time.

Try a system update to make sure you have been keeping your I phone in top shape we have had numerous I phones and used apple for many years the system is very easy to understand and broadcast when little issues you have no clue of how or why it’s happened for.just slow down and make your way to system settings and click on general and also software update it will do the rest for you …I phone is the top of the line in leading communications and makes AnY other system seem like a slow ride or constant aggravating situation and technical difficulty try being calm and updating your software to speed up response time and you will be back in the leading companies graces before you know it .

I have the same problem using MacOS Monterey 12.6 (maybe 1 or 2 updates before that). I have reinstalled the software and rebuilt the mailboxes but that makes no difference. The email opens but it takes about 20 seconds before everything appears on the screen. I'm using an iMac 27# late 2017, I wonder if this is done intentionally by Apple. On my IOS devices everything works fine.

It would be customer friendly if Apple would confirm the problem on this forum as known and give a probable repair date.

No external monitors, just the 27 inch mac dating from 2017. So VERY OLD and obsolete, ready to be replaced. /irony

Turning off the junk mail filter seemed to work for a bit, but that loophole was quickly closed. The problem is back with mails sometimes taking several minutes to open. The only way to see the content quickly is by clicking 'reply' and reading it in the created reply mail. But then the links don't work and you need to throw away a useless draft.

This is getting to be a pain and it is slightly disheartening that Apple is staying schtumm on the matter.
