How to resolve Slow Email Opening on macOS Monterey 12.4

Seems like ever since my Mac OS Monterey was updated to 12.4, I've had a lot of problems opening my email. I can click on the email envelope to open my email and wait a minute or so for my emails to be downloaded. Then when I click on the email to open, it only opens to show who it's from and the subject, but it may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes to fully open the message of the email. Even if it's only 2 or 3 lines. Normally, I could click on the email and it would open completely, whether it was an ad or a letter from someone. Has anyone else had this slow email opening problem?

Here is what worked for me today 6/26/22 (OS Monterey 12.4 on iMac). I went into Mail>Preferences>Privacy and unchecked "Protect Mail Activity." I made sure "Hide IP Address" was checked. Suddenly all my emails will open. It was taking 1-2 minutes or more every day since the last OS update. What a relief. I hope this is useful for you.

I have a 2014 MAC Mini with the same problem of delayed opening messages. I found a great solution, cheaper than a new Mini.

1 - Open up "All Sent" and delete everything over 12 months, keeping the recent important stuff.

2 - Open up "All Trash" and delete everything.

3 - Open up "On My Mac" & all "Import"s and delete everything. (I had over 700!)

My MAC mail now works without any delays, and my Notes and Numbers apps also open faster.

This is not a proper fix but a workaround. I set up a new space just for mail in mission control and leave Mail open there all the time and I have no problems viewing messages.I just have to switch to that space when I want to use Mail. It's not ideal but at least I don't have to wait 5/10 minutes for a mail to open now! I hope that's helpful to others in this situation.

I am using MacBook Air from 2013. Mail is very strange !!! Sometimes you opened it and have 5-6 seconds you can see the mail content then on next letter it is white. You can see it by hitting reply or close open the mail. This is on version 12.6.2 latest. I have also the same MacBookAir from 2013 but with version 11. There are no such problems with the same mail account. So it is 100% software BUG ! Something is locking the mail client. Yes i have tried disable / enable / uninstall antivirus AVG. Also disable enable any kind of spam filtering / hide ip stuff. The problem still stays the same. Also Safari very often locks up the same way like mail client. Apple do something !

Wow...that's terrible. My MacBook air is updated out...so doesn't do any good to have a newer mac.

Apple is such a disappointment: newer machines are terrible. And machines/devices get discontinued with no support, as soon as they can throw another one at us.

That's what happens when a bean-counter gets put in charge.

What was Jobs thinking?

This has been plaguing me for over a year. The 'REBUILD' did nothing to fix this, I have several types of email accounts including gmail and Mac using the apple email program and all were problematic as described above. Even though I regularly delete trash/junk, I went into the settings > accounts > mailbox behaviors and changed the 'erase deleted messages' and 'erase junk messages' to 'when quitting email' ... then quite email program and restarted and now it is back to its function from a year ago... I suspect that somehow it was not actually deleting the junk/trash and was searching a mountain of trash. This was a continuous irritation and really quite annoyed that apple did not correct this despite all of these posts for over a year.

To imagine that Apple will screw your mail app. up so you buy a new computer is nuts!! Yes, it's been an irritation and yes I was thinking of moving everything to Gmail but this thread reminded me that I had installed MailButler, which I can't remember using. Confined the files to the trash and hey, presto fixed. Wasn't Apple's fault all along, it was Mail Butler, perhaps!
