apple mail will not accept my gmail password on my Macbook pro. My password is correct as it allows access to google.com also, there are no issues with apple mail on my iphone.

Yes, I solved. 2-Step verification solves. After 2-step verification you have to generate specific app password for email app into Google usually for mail are 16 letters.
You can create second Google app password even to synchronize contacts
Why 2 step verification should not work ? I hate Imap too. Apple should support these new authentication methods
I am using POP and the above solution worked.
This worked so that I can now receive mail, but I still can't send. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
