Flags in Apple mail

I just "upgraded" an older MacBook Pro to Monterey. In the past, flags showed up in my Apple Mail inbox when I set them on individual emails. Now they don't, and I can't find anything about how to make this happen again. Everything I've found says to go to the "flagged" folder, which is an extra step that I really don't want.

It was in column view. And I didn't see "Flagged" as something I could view. But, when I right-clicked on "from," flag was one of the options I could choose. And now I can see them! So, while the instructions didn't actually say that, it did work. I appreciate the help!

ChrisF1949,

It's possible the inbox isn't in column view. Check out the guide here: Use column layout in Mail on Mac

You can also view the details quoted below.

"Use column layout in Mail on Mac

When you use column layout to view email messages, the message list appears in columns across the Mail window, and the message preview appears below or to the side of the list.

The Mail window showing the message list in column layout—with columns such as From, Subject, and Date Received—and the message preview below the list.

  1. In the Mail app  on your Mac, choose View > Use Column Layout (a checkmark indicates the layout is in use).
  2. Do any of the following:
    • Change which columns are visible: Control-click a column header, then choose an attribute, such as Muted. The Conversation, Status, and Subject columns are always shown.
    • Show the message preview on the side or bottom: Choose View > Show Side Preview or View > Show Bottom Preview.
    • Change how messages are sorted: Control-click a column header, choose Sort By, then choose an attribute, such as From or Size, and a sort order.
    • Reorder columns: Drag a column left or right to change its location.
    • Show the messages in a conversation: In the Conversation column, click the arrow ."

Let us know if that helps you to view your flagged messages.

Cheers!

How to flag emails hasn't changed—thankfully. How to see them has. I used to be able to see the flags on emails in my inbox. But, now, everything I've read says what you just did—in order to see the flags, I have to go to the "flagged" mailbox. I can no longer see them in the inbox. Is that correct? Or is there, pretty please, some setting I can use to see them in my inbox again? Thanks
