How to separate photos from ipad and iphone

I recently backed up my iPhone and iPad in iCloud but realized the photos are synchronized on both devices. I would want to find a way to separate them back again from the iPad and iPhone since the photos on the iPad are for working purposes which also generated huge storage on the iPhone if put all of them together.

I hope anyone can provide a solution to this situation. thanks!

As long as the iCloud sync is activated all your device will have the same photos.

You can not say "Move these photos to iPhone and these others to iPad".

If you would deactivate the iCloud sync you could manually delete photos from the different devices.

There is no automated way to separate photos that were coming from iPhone / iPad, the system does not remember where the photos came from. As soon as they are mixed they are one collection of photos.

Yes iCloud will sync all photos between the different devices, all devices will have the same photos.

That is the main intention of iCloud.

I would be very careful with the term "I recently backed up my iPhone and iPad in iCloud ..."

iCloud is not a backup system, it is more a sync system.

As soon as you delete something on one device it will also be deleted from the iCloud and all other connected devices!

iCloud will protect you if something is wrong with your iPhone / iPad, but not from user mistakes.

I would recommend that you create folder for "working purposes" and for "private purposes", then you can split your files.

If you really want to have them 100% separate you can go with 2 Apple IDs, one for the iPhone and 1 for the iPad.

Then no information will be shared between devices.

Store your photos and videos in iCloud

Your photos and videos are stored on your device in their original, high-resolution version. This means that they use a lot of space on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. With iCloud Photos, you can make more space available on your device and have your entire collection, everywhere you go.

Get started with iCloud Photos:

  1. Tap Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos.
  2. Turn on iCloud Photos.
  3. Select Optimize iPhone Storage to save space on your device.

Hi Ralf, thanks for your advice which is very helpful in addressing my question from various points.

Could I ask one more question as I happened to synchronize all the photos in iCloud which caused the photos in the iPad and iPhone to mix together, how can I separate or restore the photos from the iPad and iPhone back to each device after the sync?

Thanks!
