Location Tracking with Serial Number

I recently lost my Airpods on the bus and have been trying to track them down. Someone on Instagram said that they could help me track them down and are asking me for my phone’s serial number saying that they can use it to track down the AirPods.

Is it theoretically possible to track down the AirPods with the phones serial number and/or what potentially dangerous things could they do with my serial number if I gave it to them
