What cable do I need to transfer my data from a 2015 4k Retina display 21.5" iMac to a Mac mini M1? Migration doesn't work because it doesn't recognize the older computer. I asked on the Apple store chat and was told to buy a Thunderbolt 4 cable but the old iMac has a Thunderbolt 2 port.

Plug Time Machine backup drive from your 2014 iMac into the M1 Mac Mini.
If you do not have a Time Machine backup,,then you should get an external drive and make one to prevent data loss.
