Still having exceptionally slow download speed for OS Monterey 12.4 (multi-day estimates)

I too am having multi-day download estimates for macOS Monterey 12.4. Another thread with a similar question (the other user connects via WiFi) that was labeled "Apple Recommended" said that long download times may be caused by using a VPN or anti-virus software and users should connect via ethernet cable via a router. I always connect via CAT6 ethernet cable through a Cisco router. Although the ISP where I live is slow--speedtest download rate is only 2.39 Mbps--a 12.1GB file should download in 5,063 seconds, or 84 minutes, not the 5 days shown in Software Update. So the main speed constraint is on the transmission side, i.e. Apple's servers, not on the receiver's end. And, Apple shouldn't be recommending to people to turn off anti-virus protection and VPNs--do they tell their own employees to operate without basic protections like that? (apologies on the screen shot--Excel autofilled GB/s when I typed GB next to 12.1, i.e. the file size for macOS Monterey 12.4).

A - When I used to be on a DSL connection with a 50 MB/Sec and 10 MB/Sec connection and using a Wifi Connection to Router, the download of the Full Version of Monterey ( approx. 12.17 GB ) would take about 45 - 48 Minutes to complete

A - As for VPNs and Antivirus Software installed on the computer

There are no known Windows-like Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS, because of the underling UNIX  Foundation and Permission Limitation.

The Only thing this Antivirus software is protecting is the Bank Account of the Developers and for zero return to the User aside from the problems this software creates.

The The Built in Security  is all that is required to protect the computer

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS, alter, modify, remove or delete or attempt to do so is an invitation for disaster and comprising the Operating System

Any of the below should be removed as per Developers Instructions

This will include CleanMyMac , This will include BitDefender

This will included Norton Antivirus , Sophos Av Software

Intego AntiVirus, McAfee, MacKeeper, Avast AntiVirus

Ad Guard, Webroot , ESET

Commercial VPNs should only be used if Mandated by Corporate Head Office for working remotely. Otherwise - ones Privacy and Security touted by the VPN is suspect.

@P.Phillips,

Thank you for reading and replying--your experience with a reasonable (but still slow) download speed supports my point--with a measured 2.39Mb/s download speed, I should never see 5 days to download a 12.1G file, the math simply doesn't add up. I should see about 84 minutes, there's no getting around the math.

As for your main point, Apple Support refutes your assertion that macOS is immune from malware--they provide advice on how to reduce the risk of getting caught up with malware (see below). As for VPNs, not everyone in the world lives in a country where privacy has at least some legal protections.

So, setting the red herring aside, is anyone else out there still having issues with unreasonably slow downloads for macOS Monterey?

Ten points that once again carefully avoid addressing the math. The best interests of the computer and the computer user is to download the latest macOS update (that includes security improvements...), but that is being stymied by unreasonably slow loading speeds from the source, not the recipient. I'll accept that you intend good faith, but ignoring the basic issue is not productive.

1 - User wrote and quote " only 2.39 Mbps--a " and " with a measured 2.39Mb/s "

2 - Which is correct ?

3 - " Windows-like Viruses in the wild that self replicate "

4 - User wrote and quote "As for your main point, Apple Support refutes your assertion that macOS is immune from malware"

5 - Malware and Adware would require the User, like you or I , to purposefully download and install software knowingly or by omission that contained Malware or Adware.

6 - Even at that, the only aspect of the System to be affected would be into the Account on the Computer. It would not and could not infect or modify the Actual Operations System

7 - Starting in Big Sur and continues in Monterey - the Operating System resides in a Sealed and Read Volume that the User or Bad Actor Software can not Open to Modify or infect

8 - This is not about me as person but about Apple Technical issue surrounding Apple Software or Apple Hardware

9 - There has been sufficient advise / suggestions offered for the User to make an informed and educated choice what the next course of action is required.

The suggestions have been put forth on a volunteer basis, in good faith and in the best interests of the computer.

EDITED for correctness
