My white HomePod I just bought send-hand just says that it is having wi-fi issues

My other HomePod, also recently bought second-hand, hooked up without too much fuss. The white one won't reset when I hold the top, just has Siri announce that it is having wi-fi issues, so does that likely mean the white one is faulty, or is it a known issue with a possible fix?

The wifi issue can be temporary. Try rebooting the wifi and make sure it’s on the same wifi network as the iOS device you used to set it up.. unplug the HomePod for a few seconds as well. Try restarting the HomePod from the Home App.

Did you manage to set it up ok? Is it visible in your Home App? Hopefully the last owner factory reset it to clear all their data out of it. It can’t be set up to work for you until it’s been reset, preferably by the pressing the top method:

If it’s not been erased from the last owner it’s stuck on their wifi. It’s not an activation lock type of thing where you need to contact the last owner, you just reset it yourself. Make sure your performing the reset properly as instructed in: Reset HomePod

Thanks, you were right about just resetting it and not needing the previous owner to do anything.

The trick in my situation turned out to be not waiting the recommended 10 seconds - by then mine was hunting for it's old wi-fi connection and wouldn't go in to reset mode.

I found that going a few seconds earlier, at around 5 seconds or so, took it in to the reset mode apparently before it got distracted looking for it's old wi-fi.

So, all good now, and the original HomePods set up as a pair did not disappoint - they sound absolutely great.

Thanks to both of you for your fast responses, much appreciated.

Glad you’ve got it going. I meant to come back and ask if they were the original HomePods and to try 5 seconds instead. It used to be 5 seconds, then Apple changed it to10. Which could be that’s what the minis need and they’ve discontinued the OGs and no longer need to add that to their instructions. Or an older software needs the 5 seconds. I’m not sure. They do sound amazing!
