Macbook rings in sleep mode

Dear community,

Of late my macbook air rings from my iPhone calls while it is in sleep mode and the lid is shut. Earlier I never faced this issue but now it feels like my whole house is ringing with a single call.

Has this happened/happening to anybody? I am running the latest s/w on all my devices.

Thanks in advance.

Best,

A.

Greetings anshu.lipu92,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. This sounds like you may have a Continuity feature enabled that allows calls from your iPhone to be received on your Mac. To check on the iPhone, go to Settings > Phone > Calls on Other Devices, and confirm if "Allow Calls on Other Devices" is set to On. You can disable this if desired. Get more info on this feature here:

I can say that at least on my Mac (14-inch M1 Max on Monterey), "Prevent your Mac from automatically sleeping while the display is off" is not checked.

But the behavior occurs whether the device is charging or not. To be more specific, if I get a call on my phone and my computer is in range and shut, my computer will ring for about 2 seconds and stop.

My theory is that since it is connected to the network, it is constantly syncing back and forth. When it detects a call on the phone, the computer wakes up and starts playing the ringtone before it realizes it is shut, at which point the ringing stops and it goes back to sleep. I confirmed this again yesterday with a call.

This feels like a bug to me. Hoping this gets resolved in Ventura.

Thanks!
