How to fix run-time error 53 in Excel? And PowerPoint?

Suddenly, whenever I open an Excel or Power Point document, I get an annoying pop-up message about "Visual Basic for Applications" and "run time error 53". It takes multiple closure attempts to remove the message. So far googled solutions have not worked. Does anyone have a fix?

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 12.4

Check for updates, check existing threads over at Microsoft including:

And failing that then contact Microsoft Support, as they know their apps best.
