System pop-up notification window buttons not responding

I have been having this issue every day on my M1 MacBook air, even when apps that affects my windows and mouse have been quitted. Diagnostics shows no problems.

These pop up are from:

  • App requesting access to documents
  • App requesting access to download folder
  • App requesting access to network
  • App requesting to install network extension (The extension is always automatically approved without any user interaction when this happens)
  • Opening encrypted dmg files in Finder (Opening the images directly in disk utility still works though)

Clicking the buttons does not cause a response.

The window can only be closed sometimes from quitting the app for the first 3.

A restart is always needed for the last 2.

The 4th one can be fixed after a restart but will show-up again later in the day after uninstalling the extension.

~/Library/LaunchAgents/mega.mac.megaupdater.plist

Executable: /Applications/MEGAsync.app/Contents/MacOS/MEGAupdater

Details: Domain name invalid - possibly malware

You should uninstall this. It’s a vector for adware.

Also, there are two things which, although legitimate, might be interfering in some way. You could try temporarily uninstalling and seeing there is any difference. I am thinking of Rectangle (which modifies how windows are handled) and DisplayLink.

Probably not related to the present situation, but if you use vpn, you should read this:
