system message boxes fail to response and can't be closed since macos monterey 12.4

hello everyone.

I'm using a mac mini 2020 (m1 chips). Since I upgraded to monterey 12.4, I have encountered a big trouble.

Message boxes like these two pictures below are unresponsive after mouse clicks. Neither can I make my decision take effect, nor can I close the message box. I have tried various methods to close it, including shortcuts such as esc key, but the message box is still there. The only way to fix it is to reboot the system, which is very inconvenient.

Does anyone have the same experience? How can I fix it, please?

According to this Screen Shot - the "snipaste .app " is Only in Beta for macOS.

Nor is there are specific information on the Developers Site specifically mentioning this Application is Monterey Compatible .

Strongly suggest communicating with the Specific Developers of this Application and / or remove the Application until such time as it is Monterey macOS 12 compatible

@LifewithApple

To get rid of the alert, you can run the application "Activity Monitor", select the UserNotificationCenter in the column Process Name and click the (x) icon to stop it. At least, this will get rid of the dialog. I’m afraid you will have to do this every time this happens.

To reproduce this problem open Settings > Security & Privacy, select tab Privacy, select Full Disk Access, click the lock to authenticate. Uncheck disk access for any application, launch that application, and try to access a new folder (one where you didn’t write before with that app). You’ll get an unresponsive system alert –assuming your computer is affected. I’m running a Macbook Pro M1 16'' 2021.

Judging from above description of the computer issue, there maybe some more serious irises that we can not see from our Remote Locations .

Understand, we are all working Remotely from all around the world.

Therefore, we do not have the On-Hands experience the User ( you ) has with this computer.

The next best thing for us to having an actual On-Hand experience  with this computer is to follow the steps below

Download the Application Etrecheck directly from a well Respected ASC Contributor. And Safe to use.

The application is free or paid from added features.

Run the application with Full Disc Access ( Security & Privacy - Full Disc Access ).

It will take a Snap Shot -  both the hardware and software.

The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information.

Post back the Full Report - copy and paste - using the Additional Text Icon ( 3rd Icon to last )

We can have a look at the report for possible issues and may have possible suggestions to resolve the issues.

The computer is experiencing the Fruits of the Third Party Cr#ware that was installed by the Owner.

Regardless of on what version of macOS this software was installed, the issues will remain infinitum or until these 17 Items have been properly dealt with.

If the user does takes the time to read some of the long list of Previous Posting regarding CleanMyMac and Avira - it is difficult to square the 3 posting appearing in the above reply versus the 600+ for CMM and similar for Avira Antivirus Software

Good luck

It be interesting to know what OS you upgraded from, OS-11 to 12.4?, and if from 12.3, these dialogs did not happen under 12.3? After rebooting, does the computer come up normal and these dialogs happen when you open a particular application?

Your dialogs suggest a Security Policy change may be needed, because the programs have parts in "sacred" areas the OS and is asking for access permission. Also, possibly these programs are in need of updating to run properly in Monterey as it appears the computer is hanging. Make sure the programs are the latest versions and intended to work in Monterey. If the dialogs continue (programs are good and work and dialogs respond and come every time you open the program), then refer to the following graphic and set the Security Policy as shown. I use a Mac Studio, you may have a different access to the Recovery mode for mac-mini.

Thanks for that clarification. I had an experience with resetting the Security Policy... you might reset to the lower, boot normal and exercise your software, shut down and then put back as you prefer. For me that flip-flop and back stopped two HP printer programs posting those messages when previously they did not display (I don't recall what event started them). The freezing somehow seems to me is related to your software, but I am outside my knowledge base.

This problem happens with every single system dialog on my Macbook Pro M1 and Macbook Pro 2017 after upgrading to Monterey 12.4.

Buttons OK or Cancel are clickable (they change state to highlighted) but have no effect. The help button is clickable and displays a help dialog. The following one went away on its own after I screenshoted it (Previously I clicked on it a dozen times with no effect).

I’d say it’s a system problem and we’ll have to wait for another update. In the meantime, the loss of functionality and screen space is annoying.

Thank you for suppling the Limited Access Report.

That said, as we have Limited Access Report  - the below analysis will also be equally limited

To be straight forwards about the below and with Respect to the user.

The user may consider performing, from below image and remove all content from this computer and start again. This time being very very selective as to what is installed on this computer. Further, would NOT use A Time Machine Backup ( if one exists ) to Restore anything from that drive to the New Installation.

Doing so, >>> Issues that may exist on the TM Backup Drive when the last Backup was performed will be migrated to the New Installation on this Computer. This would badly pollute the new Original and Pristine installation of the new OS. <<<

The following two points are the basis for my personal suspicion that the problem exists in the monterey 12.4 system :

1. The 17 points you mentioned in the Report had existed before I upgraded to monterey 12.4, but they had not caused the issue. The problems started to appear right after I upgraded to monterey 12.4.

2. More and more posts are coming, describing the same problem as mine. The same problem exists on different devices, different users, different environments, but there is one thing in common: they all appear in monterey 12.4

I hope I am wrong.

I also don't expect that the only way to fix the problem is to upgrade to a new version.

I will continue to try other user level actions to hopefully resolve the issue.

Thank you for all your helps!

Thank you for your guidance on both the “snipaste” and "bup slim".

In fact, except for these two software, the dialog box appears similarly unresponsive when asking for access rights for any software. So, I seriously suspect that it is a problem at the OS level.

Anyway, I can only bypass the problem now.

So, is there any way to further lower the security level for specific software so that such dialogs do not appear again ?

I am sorry to say that the method you provided has been tried and it still does not work.

And, I'm sorry to say that this may be a bug located deeper in the OS code.

Is there any way to bring this to the attention of the system developers so they can fix it in the next release?

Or, are they right here in this forum and will read the posts and take suggestions?
