Google requiring authentication in web browser

My MacBook suddenly starting coming up with a prompt saying Google requires authentication & none of my emails were being received or would send from it. So I deleted the account and tried to te add it and the same prompt comes up.

When I try to “open browser” nothing happens.


help I need to be able to have my emails ASAP on my MacBook.

Until we get this resolved, I suggest that you temporarily access your Gmail account using a web browser. Then we can go over trying to re-setup your Gmail account with the Apple Mail app. Let us know if you are not successful accessing your Gmail with this method.


You must have two-factor authentication enabled on your Google user account. That is a good thing. It just appears that you are having an issue logging in to it.

On the Google prompt, select "Open Browser." This should open your default web browser to the Google user account login page. this is where you would enter your Google account user credentials (username & password.)


The issue is with your account authentication with the Google email servers, and why, you are not able to send messages via Gmail ... or add your Gmail account to the Apple Mail app.
