Very Poor Wi-Fi Speed on AppleTV 4K

I recently purchased a 4K HDR AppleTV. My older AppleTV HD went upstair to a small secondary television. My internet plan has a download speed of up to 25mbps. Using the Speedtest app, I have speeds of:

~26.2mbps on my MacBook Pro

~26.0mbps on my iPhoneSE

~25.5mbps on the older AppleTV HD

but only

~2.84mbps on the AppleTV 4K

This seems insane to me and naturally makes 4K viewing impossible.

I have moved the 4K box to different spots. It is approximately 12 feet from the WiFi router. Also, when I hold my iPhone directly side-by-side the 4K box the iPhone gets its same nicely high speed readings. How can there be such extreme speed loss on the 4K unit? I have tinkered with settings on the 4K box, read up on things via some website, all to no avail.

• Might this be my problem? – My WiFi router is an older flat Apple Time Capsule Model A1409. It serves my other devices but is it possible it cannot adequately serve the AppleTV 4K unit? Could that be my bottleneck?

Any thoughts or suggestions will be deeply appreciated.

Well your router is pretty ancient, I would consider upgrading to a Mesh network to ensure you have a strong signal throughout your home. There are many articles available that explain what Mesh networks are for example:

I believe I found the – or at least "an" – answer to my slow data speed. This was from a different thread elsewhere in the support groups.

After doing this, I am receiving speeds to my AppleTV 4K which is almost identical to speeds received by other devices in my house.

Thanks, rkaufmann87. Glad to be able to share the info. So far it seems to have dealt with the situation and speeds are right in line with other devices. I should have made notes as to what exactly caused the problem, but it was probably over my head anyway. That Time Capsule is still as old as the hills, but if it hangs in there, well, that's OK with me. Take care.
