Samsung M8 Monitor, connecting to Macbook

I just got my monitor and figured it out! After connecting with USC-C, go to Workspace and then there will be options for connecting. If the USB-C is properly connected there will be a "PC" option there to select above all the others (Note, this is confusing because it's a mac but they really do mean personal computer here and not a non-apple product.) Then it should open up your extended display!

Step 1: Connect USB-C

Step 2: Workspaces - select PC

Step 3: Enjoy the extended display!

You have to use the HDMI port and only one of the usbc ports. The other is USBC power. So, only two of the three ports on the back of the monitor will accept a video source. Make sure you have it plugged into the right port.

Don’t click the PC button. Go into the menu on the left of the Samsung Home Screen and (with your MacBook connected) click “connected devices” and from there, click PC. Read this post for some guidance.

It should connect directly over an appropriately SHORT USB-C cable. (0.8 meters or shorter).

NB>> the USB-C cord shipped in the box with your Mac is a Charge ONLY cord, useless for any high speed data.

MacBook Pro 2019, Monterey 12.6 too. Used the USB-C port next to the mini HDMI

Well, had my M8 Monitor for two weeks and was stoked about it working seamsless with my MBPro 14 M1 Pro, untill i decided to get a second M8 Monitor. Now my excisting screen only works with HDMI and the new doesnt work at all. Like what the.

The Samsung M8 specs say it is a 3,840 x 2,160 display and has ONE USB-C input with charging capability

(and Micro HDMI input, which is not standard interface, so for that you MUST use their cord, and connect to an HDMI port)

has anyone gotten the M8 to work with a Mac via USB-C? I've tried clicking the PC box, but it just shows instructions on how to connect to a PC remotely. :(

this monitor is so great! if only it could connect to a mactop!

I found this post and it helped me figure out how to connect the MacBook Pro to the Samsung M8 Smart Monitor it without using mirroring. Hope it helps you or others.

I figured it out! actually, the Geek Squad did.

I went to Best Buy where I bought the monitor, and told them if they could get it to work with my Mac, then I'd keep it. otherwise I'd return it. within 5 mins the Geek Squad geek used an adapter to plug my Mac into the HDMI port (with included cable) and it worked! something about ANY HDMI adapter that makes it work in a way that USB-C doesn't. and if you get an HDMI adapter with POWER DELIVERY, you can use just 1 USB-C port and still get power. I bought this one for about $35. done!

interesting. which Macintosh are you using? I wonder if different models/years have slightly different USB-C configurations. mine most def did NOT work with USB-C. but did with HDMI + an adapter. mines a:

I discover that the cable that came with the monitor have to be plugged in the second usb-c port and not the first one (from the left, looking from the back side. I have to use a apple usb-c cable at the first port and it work fine. But again it's a double connection you need to do = two cables

I had the same issue described by others which is that the USB-C does not work, thunderbolt or not. Instead, get a HDMI to USB-adaptor, an example that worked for me is below. This worked with my macbook pro 2017 edition beautifully.

I have the same issue with my MacBook Pro M1 M1 Pro. I use gaming mode in extreme refresh, but it doesn't go over 60 hz. In that mode, the lag is not constant. Sometimes it's fluid, sometimes it's laggy. Overall, for the price I paid, I'm mostly disappointed.

did someone find a solution for this? Just bought the monitor and very bummed. It is not acknowledging the usb c connection at all on either end.
