Mail Keeps Closing 3rd Pane

The Mail App keeps closing the 3rd Pane (the pane that shows the contents of the selected email) for no reason. Then I have to hover the cursor, and drag it back into view. It happens dozens of times a day. Is there anyway to make the 3rd pane stay put like it did before I upgraded Monterey?

Mac Pro, macOS 12.4

Quit Mail. Relaunch Mail holding the Shift Key— this is a bit of soft/safe launch of the app.

If you have no Mail window use the Command 0 (zero) keyboard shortcut. and test. Compare your results.
