9 GB of Storage Used for zero Photos on iPad

I have an iPad Mini 6 running the latest OS and it’s showing that Photos is using almost 9 GB of storage. I had maybe 50 photos on there, no videos, no shared libraries, etc. I searched and tried the backup/restore method and deleted the few photos that were on the device. But it’s still showing 9 GB of storage being used by Photos. I’d rather not have to start from scratch on the device…any other suggestions?

Photos/images and videos found in the Messages app are all separate items ( copies ) separate from images and videos found in the Photos app.

So, you would need to clear out all the message threads that have images and videos included in those.
