Setting up iPhone 13 from backup on iTunes

I am setting up a new iPhone 13 using iTunes (El Captian). After the data transfer began, iTunes said my the device was disconnected. After more than an hour, the iPhone still says Backup in Progress. Is it? Or, do I need to shut everything down and try another method to transfer my data?

Connect iPhone to Mac


Use your USB lightening cable --> Resolve USB-related alerts in iTunes - Apple Support

If unable to connect --> If iTunes/Finder doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support

For your Mac --> If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod ...

Use genuine cable --> Identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning connector accessories ...
